Khajrana Ganesh Mandir Indore

Introduction:

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this revered temple was established in 1735 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, after a priest dreamt of the idol hidden in a well—once unearthed, the temple emerged over the sacred spot.

The temple’s origin isn’t just folklore—it symbolizes divine intervention and royal devotion under the Holkar dynasty.

Architecture & Expansion

Evolving from a humble hut to a sprawling complex, the temple now sprawls over 8.5 acres, with plans to expand to 26+ acres, transforming it into a full-fledged spiritual hub akin to Ujjain’s Mahakal Lok.

The main shrine is modestly adorned, while the garbhagriha features silver-plated exteriors depicting festivals, and the deity’s eyes are reportedly made of donated diamonds.

Rituals & Devotee Practices

Inverted Swastika: Devotees draw an upside-down swastika on the deity’s back to make a wish, and once fulfilled, redraw it correctly—a powerful local ritual.

Thread-Tying Parikrama: Three circumambulations of the temple followed by tying a thread symbolizes binding one’s wishes to Lord Ganesha.

A unique Peepal tree in the compound also holds special significance—tying threads around it is believed to fulfill desires.

Customs & Beliefs

The temple expects thousands of devotees, especially on Wednesdays and Sundays, as well as during Ganesh Chaturthi and New Year’s Eve when crowds can reach around 200,000 .

Rich donations—gold, diamonds, cash—flow in from grateful devotees. Nishkam bhojan (free meals) are served daily, and fulfilled prayers often lead to offering ladoos equal in weight to the devotee (Tula Daana).
